Experiencing Workplace Burnout. I am trying to talk to employers but getting nowhere.

Workplace burnout is a serious concern and being completely transparent with you, if you are entering every day to work expecting doom and gloom then your mental health can worsen. As you noted already you are feeling the sense of depression. It sounds like you already taking some steps to look for other options and you recognize the workplace does not value you. It is even more important that you maintain that hope that you will find something better. Many of my patients begin to experience an increased sense of hopelessness that they stop trying to get out of the situation they are in. They let a lot of possible opportunities pass them by because they are sunken into the depression. Also, the toxic work environment involves being invalidated many times. People may not take your concerns seriously or dismiss any complaint you make. On top of that you are experiencing retaliation for speaking up. You have done well in identifying this is an unhealthy work culture. The important part to maintaining your mental health is to seek out your allies in the work place. This does not mean creating an “us versus them” culture but to at least have someone you can share your thoughts with about work with and vent to them about what is going on. Hopefully you can find at least one co-worker you can trust enough to speak with. The difficulty in dealing with a toxic work environment is that we can recognize that things are bad but we are also stuck. It is not easy to just leave a find a new job. Thus, we have to deal with the present moment. In the present moment you have to look for what you can do to maintain your mental health until moving into a different role, company, or job.
