About Me

Victor Carrasco LPC NCC PhD

The majority of my clinical work began in the U.S./Mexico border region. Throughout my clinical work and personal experiences, I realized there are many systemic barriers affecting the community’s access to care. One area that I wanted to address further was adapting the treatments I was trained in to incorporate the cultural values of the community. My aim is to incorporate my patients’ values such as family and faith, when possible into the treatment process. My interest continues to be related to working in multidisciplinary health care teams and addressing severe mental illness. I plan to incorporate more psychological testing and provide this service in my community. In my time away from work, I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, eating good food, and watching DC movies

Pronouns: he/his/him

I’m passionate about helping underserved populations especially the Latino/a community.

In particular, I try to increase the accessibility for those who speak Spanish primarily or are bilingual. I also provide support for fellow therapists and trainees. I provide support to students who can go through struggles in completing their education while also trying to maintain their own mental health.

How my passion developed

I am a first-generation Mexican-American and grew up in the southwest United States. I was also a first-generation college and graduate student. Having grown up in a low SES environment, I witnessed the lack of mental health services in my community and wanted to make changes for those underserved.

How I live out my passion as a therapist

I have strong passion for addressing the mental health stigma in communities. It is a privilege to provide a space where people can begin talking about their own mental health struggles. It is a sense of fulfillment to see them make improvements and be a part of the process.

How I help others

My approach is to treat people as humans first. The therapy relationship is a professional one but I also like to be transparent and genuine with the people I work with. In return, they appreciate the honesty and are also transparent with me about their concerns. The more real we are in the therapy process with one another, the more likely we are to address many issues.

I am here to provide you a space to discuss difficult topics and a therapy approach to fit your needs!
